The course has been available in the classroom for a few years, but now it is possible to take it online too through the RYA Interactive e-learning site.
However you decide to take the course, it offers a great introduction to navigation and safety awareness for new, inexperienced or rusty skippers and crew.
This course is for anyone interested in sailing, motor boating, sea angling or diving. It's also the perfect stepping stone to the more in-depth Day Skipper shorebased course or RYA on-the-water courses such as the Intermediate Powerboat, Start Yachting, Helmsman or Day Skipper courses.
The course runs as either an 8 week evening course 7.00 to 9.30pm or as a 2 day intensive course check course dates to see when the next course is planned or take the course immediately online using the RYA Interactive e-learning site.
No prior knowledge is required.
Charts and publications, safety, buoyage, tidal awareness, basic navigation and pilotage, rules of the road, electronic navigation, anchoring, weather forecasts, passage planning.
A basic awareness and understanding of navigation and safety
An RYA certificate is awarded for sucessful completion of this course. Students are assessed during the course and there are no final examination papers.
