RYA Day Skipper Course

A comprehensive introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship. Invaluable for learning how to start making decisions on board and if you are considering taking the Day Skipper practical course.

The course runs as either an 19 week evening course 7.00 to 9.30pm or as a 6 day intensive course. An RYA student pack containing charts, training exercises is included in the course fee. You will need a plotter and dividers which can be supplied at a cost of £18 if you do not have your own. Many helpful RYA publications are available if required but are not essential to sucessfully completing the course.

Pre-course experience

No knowledge is assumed or required to do the course but some practical experience will be beneficial.

Course content

Basic seamanship and introduction to navigation and meteorology. A basic knowledge of lights, weather and IRPCS is also included.

Ability after course

Sufficient knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day.

Assessment

There are two assessment papers to do at the end of the course a General Assessment Paper and a Chartwork Assessment Paper. An RYA certificate is awarded for sucessful completion of this course.
