RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore CourseThis course is ideal for candidates for the Coastal Skipper practical course and Yachtmaster Offshore exam. Some revision of the Day Skipper shorebased course is included, plus more advanced skills in offshore and coastal navigation by day and night, pilotage and meteorology. The course runs as either an 19 week evening course 7.00 to 9.30pm or as a 6 day intensive course. An RYA student pack containing charts, training exercises is included in the course fee. You will need a plotter and dividers which can be supplied at a cost of £20 if you do not have your own. A book on the International Rules for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea will also be required at a cost of approx £10 depending on the book chosen. Many helpful RYA publications are available if required but are not essential to sucessfully completing the course. Pre-course experienceNavigation to Day Skipper standard and some practical experience is recommended. Course contentNavigation, meteorology, collision avoidance, safety and passage planning. Ability after courseUnderstands the principles of navigating for coastal and offshore passages AssessmentThere are three assessment papers to do at the end of the course a Collision Regulations Paper, a Meterology Paper and a Chartwork Paper. An RYA certificate is awarded for sucessful completion of this course.
