RYA Basic Navigation and Safety CourseThis is an introductory course to navigation and safety requiring no prior knowledge. This course is suitable for anyone new to boating: sailors, powerboaters, sea anglers, divers and boatmasters. Also useful for experienced dinghy and keelboat sailors and inshore racers. The course runs as either an 8 week evening course 7.00 to 9.30pm or as a 2 day intensive course. An RYA student pack containing charts, plotter and training exercises is included in the course fee. No other materials are required to do the course but additional RYA publications are available if required at additional cost. Pre-course experienceNo prior knowledge is required. Course contentCharts and publications, safety, buoyage, tidal awareness, basic navigation and pilotage, rules of the road, electronic navigation, anchoring, weather forecasts, passage planning. Ability after courseA basic awareness and understanding of navigation and safety AssessmentAn RYA certificate is awarded for sucessful completion of this course. Students are assessed during the course and there are no final examination papers.
